The general and academic welfare of Vienna College
students is shared between a number of staff through
a number of systems. The residential domestic
staff comprises a Senior Man and three male assistants,
all of whom are academic teachers living alongside
the male students. They support and supervise
the students in their lives outside the classroom.
Similarly, the residential female Domestic Staff
are also all members of the teaching staff, three
in total, live and work with the girls residing
in the girls’ compound.
Embedded in the residential areas are dormitories
grouped in ‘Houses’ – Lion,
Tiger, Panther, Leopard, Jaguar and Cheetah each
led by a Housemaster or Housemistress and several
associated members of staff.
The Houses regularly compete in a number of inter-house
competitions – sporting, musical, drama
and debating. They also serve to unite groups
of all-age students.
Most teachers are given the role of tutor and regularly meet with a relatively small group of tutees to act as another significant pastoral influence on the students. Tutors monitor the general welfare and academic progress of each tutee and serve as the front-line information gatherer and informant for parents .
The health of the students is monitored and maintained
by a full time medically qualified residential
nurse and similary qualified assistant. Together
they operate clinics on a daily basis and the
school Doctor regularly attends the College to
offer surgery sessions. The College organizes
a medical insurance scheme, premiums paid for
by the parents, such that, if necessary, a sick
or injured student can receive immediate attention
in a local hospital. |
